SEPA 7/17 M/H Viet Nam Vet Era Green Beret's 80th B'day
Warriors' Watch received two separate invitations to swarm this vet in a local restaurant during his 80th birthday party so that we can meet him and thank him for his service.
Al Murray was born in Darby PA. went to school in Sharon Hill, Holy Spirit elementary Sharon Hill high school and played football. He was a tight end, he ran track, the mile, half mile and quarter mile. Graduated third in his class. Received a two-year scholarship to Drexel did not have money for a third year dropped out left college on Monday. Was drafted on a Friday and became instructor of the Green Beret to stay in the USA. Did well at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was then sent to the far east in 1962. Vietnam. He was Army first special forces group.. Al typed financial records for eight weeks for the upcoming inspector general inspection. A soldier who went to the far east with Al continued on to Vietnam and died in a jeep land mine explosion in 1963. Eight US soldiers died in 63 who were with Al. Al returned from the far east to the 101st airborne and separated from the service after three years. He then went back to college for three more years in 1964 after college he worked for E.I Dupont until minimum retirement. He then went to work as a biomedical engineer for 40 years for the defense department. He received three masters degrees during this time. He ran marathons around the country and In Europe during this time. He is still currently working for the department of defense at age 80.
